Limbaugh Logic

It must really be hard to fill a daily radio show when you only have party talking points to go by. So whenever Rush Limbaugh decides to go outside the aforementioned talking points it is radio gold.

His latest rant was in response to an Italian study that claimed that the average length of the male member had decreased in size by over 10% over the past 50 years. The study went on to say that the likely causes for the decrease was weight gain around the waist, smoking, stress and environmental pollutants. Of course the rotund Limbaugh wasn’t having any of that and instead offered his own theory as to the decrease in our manhood, and get ready, he blames feminism!

“I think it’s feminism,” he declared. “If it’s tied to the last 50 years — the average size of [a male’s] member is 10 percent smaller than 50 years — it has to be the feminazis, the chickification and everything else.” “Give ‘em time and they’ll blame Bush. But air pollution vs. feminazis? Ha!”

I almost expected him to blame the gays but this is just as good.

Chick-fil-A Changes Public Anti-Gay Stance?

Just days after our local wingnuts actually called the bigoted fast food company Chick-fil-A “heroes of truth” for their public anti-gay stance and donations to anti-gay organizations, the company has at least publicly changed it’s policies.

Bowing to pressure from a Chicago Alderman and increasing public pressure and bad press, the company apparently has decided to change it’s policies regarding their public anti-gay positions and donations by the non-profit, Winshape, funded by the fast food chicken joint.

After months of negotiations with Ald. Proco “Joe” Moreno over its anti-gay positions and donations, Chick-fil-A has agreed to cease donations from its non-profit charity to anti-gay organizations and issued a company-wide internal mandate calling for the equal treatment of all employees and customers.

WinShape, a non-profit funded by Chick-fil-A, has donated millions of dollars to anti-LGBT organizations — some classified hate groups — including Focus on the Family, according to The Civil Rights Agenda, which worked with Moreno and company executives in an advisory capacity as they negotiated to adopt new policies. Chick-fil-A did not respond to attempts to confirm the information.

What a concept, “equal treatment of all employees and customers”. Too bad the culture at Chick-fil-A necessitated a memo reminding their employees of that ideal.

Finally Santorum Says Something True

Speaking at the “Value Voters Summit”, Rick Santorum admitted what many already knew, especially when talking about the far right wingers that were the target audience at the aforementioned summit.

We will never have the media on our side, ever, in this country…We will never have the “elite, smart people” on our side, because they feel they should have the power to tell you what to do…so our colleges and universities, they’re never going to be on our side.

Yep the conservative movement doesn’t attract smart people. Finally something coming from Rick Santorum’s mouth that I agree with..

Registering Poor To Vote Is Like Giving Burglary Tools To Criminals

Believe it or not that is the contention of Matthew Vadum writing in the ironically named rag the American Thinker.

Why are left-wing activist groups so keen on registering the poor to vote?

Because they know the poor can be counted on to vote themselves more benefits by electing redistributionist politicians. Welfare recipients are particularly open to demagoguery and bribery.

Registering them to vote is like handing out burglary tools to criminals. It is profoundly antisocial and un-American to empower the nonproductive segments of the population to destroy the country — which is precisely why Barack Obama zealously supports registering welfare recipients to vote.

So there you have it, only the rich should be allowed to vote because only the most productive ones in society should have that right. Besides they certainly would never fall victim to false claims or bribes…

Climate Science Is BS But End Of Days Prophecies Just Peachy

Again I go to Wingnutdaily to peer into the far rightwing’s thinking or lack thereof. This time Joseph Farah’s internet rag tells us about a Texas lake that has turned red (like in blood) and following the typical fundamentalist views that WND and their readers subscribe to, it can be nothing other than another sign of the approaching end of days.

“I’m not saying that this Texas lake is these Scriptures in Revelation, but what I am saying is the Bible prophecies are slowly fulfilling themselves in the midst of an end time revelation – that we need to be right, we need to be saved, we need to be born again and ready to meet the coming King,” he said.

Of course scientists do have a non-biblical explanation for the death of the lake and it’s subsequent change in color, you know like the worst drought in the area’s recorded history causing a major fish kill and bacterial/algae growth. But obviously that explanation is not something that their flock could latch on to as they might have to admit that something isn’t quite right with our climate and we all know that just won’t work.

All is not lost though. In an almost biblical twist of fate, Texas Governor Rick Perry just so happens to be holding his “I’m sucking up to the religious right in preparation for a Presidential run” day of prayer and fasting this weekend so maybe he and his minions could say a little prayer to end the drought. It didn’t work back in April but maybe with all the high powered righteous folks he has sponsoring his “apolitical” event the man upstairs might just listen this time around stopping both the end times and the drought.

Ohio Is Channeling Its Inner South Dakota On Gun Wingnuttery

I found out quite quickly after moving to South Dakota that if many here had their way we would all be transported back to the good old days of 1880’s Deadwood where everyone was packing heat and our differences were settled at high noon in the public square. I did have high hopes though that the state of my birth wouldn’t be dragged down into that vortex of wingnuttia.

Unfortunately I was wrong and it appears they have dipped even lower than South Dakota (never thought that was even possible) when it comes to pandering to the NRA crowd with a bill on the Governors desk waiting for his already promised signature.

The bill will allow concealed carrying of firearms in all of Ohio’s Class D licensed liquor establishments, which include bars, restaurants, nightclubs, shopping malls, museums and sports stadiums.

Seriously?

Just what we need, a bunch of idiots mixing alcohol with guns. Can’t wait to see what happens when a bunch of drunk Brown’s fans in the “Dog Pound” at Cleveland Stadium get pissed off after Colt McCoy throws his next interception…

Ohio’s Version of the 2nd Amendment

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear conceal arms to prove how big their “member” is in an environment where testosterone and alcohol flow freely shall not be infringed.

The Article All Birthers Should Read And Understand…But Won't

The AP published an article today dealing with the controversy over where Barack Obama was born and it should be required reading for birthers everywhere. Nothing written there is new, but it does do a decent job of putting everything into one place for those really wanting to understand the issue.

In it they document much of the information already available and public like his certificate of live birth, the birth announcements from August 1961 in 2 different Hawaiian newspapers, and the statements from former Republican Governor Linda Lingle and various Hawaii Department of Health officials certifying Obama’s birth information. But as evident by the continuing controversy, none of that is enough for those believing the President is not a natural born US citizen.

All that makes one wonder, what more do they want? The answer to me is obvious, they want what they know they can’t have, Obama’s long form birth certificate. (emphasis mine)

What the would-be sleuths won’t find is Obama’s “long-form birth certificate,” a confidential one-page document containing his original birth records kept on file in the first floor of the Department of Health.

Those original birth records typically include additional birth details, such as the hospital and delivering doctor, said Dr. Chiyome Fukino, the state’s former health director who twice looked at and publicly confirmed Obama’s original long-form birth records.

But those documents are state government property that can’t be released to anyone, even the president himself, said Joshua Wisch, special assistant to the state attorney general. Obama would be able to inspect his birth records if he visited the Health Department in person, but original records of live birth are never released, he said.

So instead of accepting the same evidence any other candidate for higher office is required to produce they base their contentions on something that they know will never be made public. At this point one can only surmise that they stick to this not because they really believe that Obama is foreign born but because they need to latch on to any reason they can to dismiss his Presidency. Some will of course say that that stubbornness is racially motivated but no matter what the reason, it has become a rallying cry for the far right and a talking point for any candidate wanting their support.

Big picture will this or any evidence for that matter satisfy most of those that subscribe to this heavily debunked issue? I doubt it as many of these same folks think Donald Trump or Sarah Palin would make a good president so their overall judgement is quite suspect to begin with…but we can always hope.

More Sharia Paranoia

At least Chuck Norris attempted to give examples to explain his Sharia law paranoia, wrong examples, but examples just the same…

Mother Jones has collected a series of quotes from officials, many of whom have sponsored anti-Sharia legislation across the country (South Dakota included), and it would seem to be quite telling:

North Carolina

Rep. Verla Insko asked [State Rep. George] Cleveland twice for an example of a case that would show a need for the bill. “I do not have any specific examples off the top of my head,” Cleveland finally replied.

Missouri yesterday

[State Rep. Jamilah] Nasheed called on [State Rep. Paul] Curtman to provide a list of cases in which international law had been used in American courts but Curtman was unable to provide an example of such a case.

Missouri in March:

“I don’t have the specifics with me right now but if you go to—the web address kind of escapes my mind right now. Any Google search on international law used in the state courts in the U.S. is going to turn up some cases for you.”

Alabama last month:

[State Sen. Gerald] Allen could not readily define Shariah in an interview Thursday. “I don’t have my file in front of me,” he said.

Georgia in February:

[State Rep. Mike Jacobs] acknowledged that he was not aware of any instances in Georgia where a plaintiff or defendant asked the court to apply Sharia law but believes it has happened elsewhere.

Alaska in March:

In a hearing before the House State Affairs Committee, [State Rep. Carl] Gatto’s chief of staff, Karen Sawyer, said Sharia is an example of the type of transnational law that has appeared in family law, divorce and child custody cases nationally, though she knows of [no] instances of it appearing in Alaska courts.

South Carolina on Wednesday:

None of the senators nor Kevin A. Hall, a Columbia attorney who testified in support of the bill, were aware of any examples in South Carolina where courts upheld sharia law over the U.S. Constitution.

South Dakota in February:

[I]n testimony this week, proponents of a Sharia ban could not produce a single South Dakota case in which Islamic law had been a problem.”

Oklahoma last November:

Mr. Boughton acknowledged that he did not know of an instance in which Shariah law had been invoked by the courts.

Notice a pattern?

Nebraska Resurrects And Enhances Bill That Would Make Killing Abortion Providers Justifiable

South Dakota’s legislature shelved their version of justifying the murder of abortion providers last week but apparently our neighbors to the south, Nebraska, decided to bring it back. And their bill allows for anyone to claim justifiable homicide when killing abortion providers.

Last week, South Dakota’s legislature shelved a bill, introduced by Republican state Rep. Phil Jensen, which would have allowed the use of the “justifiable homicide” defense for killings intended to prevent harm to a fetus. Now a nearly identical bill is being considered in neighboring Nebraska, where on Wednesday the state legislature held a hearing on the measure.

The legislation, LB 232, was introduced by state Sen. Mark Christensen, a devout Christian and die-hard abortion foe who is opposed to the prodedure even in the case of rape. Unlike its South Dakota counterpart, which would have allowed only a pregnant woman, her husband, her parents, or her children to commit “justifiable homicide” in defense of her fetus, the Nebraska bill would apply to any third party.
