Noem Called Out For Not Being Able To Name Spending Cuts

Seems GOP golden girl Kristi Noem might need to bone up on her talking point reciting. John Boehner’s favorite freshman parrot did an interview with the Mitchell Daily Republic where she was asked several times to give examples of spending cuts that she basically ignored before finally repeating the latest GOP target, environmental regulations.

When asked three times Thursday by The Daily Republic to say what spending she wants to eliminate from the federal budget, Rep. Kristi Noem punted twice before citing a set of proposed environmental regulations she wants to forestall.

Later in the day, her spokesman said she supports numerous cuts, including reductions or eliminations in funding for high-speed rail projects, cap-and-trade technical assistance, and subsidies for the Washington Metro rapid transit system.

Not to be outdone, the national Democrats are getting into the act of calling out Noem.

The committee also pointed to a tweet from Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), touting a separate interview with Noem in which she says she wants spending reductions to be as large as possible.

“Speaker John Boehner’s favorite budget-cutting member turns out to not have any budgets that she can identify to cut,” said DCCC spokesman Jesse Ferguson.

Nothing like being prepared is it Kristi?

Noem Has Hit The Big Time

It hasn’t taken long for Kristi Noem to hit the big time of GOP bullshitters being called out for their less than honest talking points. Noem was taken to task yesterday when she tweeted on the just released CBO report on the impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for the last quarter of 2010. What the report actually showed was an increase in costs of $7 billion over the November report’s estimates, a boost in GDP, an improvement in unemployment, and an increase of between 1.3 and 3.5 million jobs during the last quarter yet this is what Noem tweeted:

John Boehner must be ecstatic, it appears he is the proud parent of a popular new questionable talking point parrot…

The Silence Is Deafening

A full 24 hours after the House voted to extend the spy on Americans portion of the Patriot Act, not one Republican blog in the state that I am aware of even mentioned the story in passing (or Dem blog that I can see). I just love the constant rhetoric from the Reich Wing on protecting our freedoms at all costs but when it comes down to actually doing so, silence.

So Ms Noem, how do you reconcile the fact that you along with 274 of your cohorts in the House have chosen to vote against the very principles you claim to hold so dear? Even worse, how does Michele Bachmann who just a few weeks ago decreed that her colleagues be able to cite the specific passage in the Constitution that validates any bill before the House, explain away her obvious hypocrisy?

House Renews The Dilution Of The 4th Amendment

While the tea party concerns themselves with the Hawaiian birth certificate of Barack Obama and John Boehner sends 450 million in pork back to his district while railing about overspending, our 4th Amendment rights get trampled on once again.

The House today voted 275 – 144 to extend provisions of the Patriot Act that among other things provides for the following:

• The “roving wiretap” provision allows the FBI to obtain wiretaps from a secret intelligence court, known as the FISA court, without identifying the target or what method of communication is to be tapped.

• The “lone wolf” measure allows FISA court warrants for the electronic monitoring of a person for whatever reason — even without showing that the suspect is an agent of a foreign power or a terrorist. The government has said it has never invoked that provision, but the Obama administration said it wanted to retain the authority to do so.

• The “business records” provision allows FISA court warrants for any type of record, from banking to library to medical, without the government having to declare that the information sought is connected to a terrorism or espionage investigation.

Isn’t it nice to know that our Congress (Kristi Noem included) have their priorities straight.

Job Killing Health Care Law, So That Is What You Are Going With?

I was just perusing Kristi Noem’s page on OpenCongress.org and I came across one of the first bills our freshman representative co-sponsored. H.R. 2 is the oft promised attempt by the GOP to repeal Obamacare and the fact that the newly christened GOP controlled House has chosen to make this a priority early into this session is no surprise nor is the fact that Noem is a co-sponsor. What caught my eye though was the name of the bill.

H.R.2 – Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act

Official Summary

1/5/2011–Introduced.Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act – Repeals the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, effective as of its enactment. Restores provisions of law amended by such Act. Repeals the health care provisions of the Health Care and Education and Reconciliation Act of 2010, effective as of the Act’s enactment. Restores provisions of law amended by the Act’s health care provisions.

As things stand now, this bill will likely not get farther than the House so it is a moot point but that still doesn’t address the little problem of their logic being a bit in question. You see, their own quoted sources, the CBO and NFIB, actually could be used to show a net increase of as many as 240,000 jobs. (GOP interpretation from CBO pulled directly out of their a** -650,000, NFIB Healthcare related jobs created +890,000)

Certainly both sides can spit out their own numbers until the cows come home, but is job killer really the best they could do? How about “H.R.2 – Repealing the evil Liberal plan to secularize America”? Or maybe “H.R.2 – Repealing the Socialist’s plot to overthrow our way of life”? After all let’s not let the facts get in the way some some good old fashioned fear mongering.

Some More Noem Fluff

That bastion of investigative journalism to the south, the Sioux City Journal, published your standard 20 question type puff piece (actually 19) with our incoming House member Kristi Noem yesterday with few surprises.

In it the interviewer pretty much lobbed softballs and Noem answered with your basic GOP talking points with only a couple of interesting points. First she was asked about whether she was a tea party “believer” to which she did her best tap dance routine and provided a 2 paragraph non-answer.

“Well, you know, there is a lot of discussion about the tea party, because they certainly had an impact on this election. A lot of the things I was talking about in my campaign, the tea party agreed with and supported me because of it. I was talking about balancing budgets, I was talking about not spending more money than we have, and that is certainly things they believe in as well.”

“It is hard to define the tea party. Even within South Dakota, we’ve got so many different tea party groups and they don’t do a lot of communication among themselves. So it is hard to define what is the tea party within South Dakota, but I will say that a lot of my supporters or people who supported me were tea party people, who would call themselves tea party activists.

And then she was asked about whether she thinks entitlements should be cut to which the queen of farm subsidies again did her best to tow the party line without actually saying she would be for cutting any programs and instead only mentioned cutting waste.

“I think that needs to be discussed. I think we need to sit down at the table and talk about our entitlement programs and make sure we have dollars flowing where they should be flowing. There is a lot of waste within those programs that, if we did a diligent job of making sure that benefits go to where they were intended to go, that we could see a substantial cut in some of those programs.”

The more I see and read from her the more I believe that she will fit right in. She has the doublespeak pretty much nailed. She knows the buzzwords that give her supporters goose bumps like cut, spend less, out of control, etc. but when specifics are asked for, the doublespeak comes out. Classic!

Noem Double Speak

Kristi Noem is quoted in yesterday’s RCJ pledging to steer a collision course with the president and to “investigate, challenge and thwart” the Obama administration. Then no more than a few paragraphs later she says she will work to find common ground with the Senate and the administration. Say what?

It is going to be an interesting next couple of years.

Noem Speaks

It is becoming obvious that the GOP has found their next poster child in our very own Congresswoman elect Kristi Noem. Just roll up your pant legs before watching as she can dish the political doublepseak with the best of them (pretty good since she hasn’t even been sworn it yet!) as demonstrated by her performance on today’s “Weekly Republican Address“.
