Is This Really The Best Group To Be Doing This?

Who better to partner with schools to educate the public about child sex abuse in the wake of the Penn State scandal than the organization that perpetrated the biggest child abuse scandal of our time? Yep the poster child for child rape, the Catholic Church, wants to help.

The Roman Catholic Church is willing to partner with American educational institutions to educate the public about child sex abuse after the Penn State scandal, according to the head of the U.S. church.

“One of the good things God might bring out of this evil and this tragedy would be now some type of alliance between religion and the educational establishment in a major national campaign to see that this is faced head on,” said Archbishop Timothy Dolan, the top Catholic official in the United States.

You just can’t make this stuff up.

More Evidence Church Covered For Pedophile Priests

If anyone not wearing their religion blinders had any doubt of how destructive the Catholic Church has been to society, especially our children, this should remove any doubt.

A newly revealed 1997 letter from the Vatican warned Ireland’s Catholic bishops not to report all suspected child-abuse cases to police — a disclosure that victims groups described as “the smoking gun” needed to show that the Vatican enforced a worldwide culture of cover-up.

The letter, obtained by Irish broadcasters RTE and provided to The Associated Press, documents the Vatican’s rejection of a 1996 Irish church initiative to begin helping police identify pedophile priests following Ireland’s first wave of publicly disclosed lawsuits.

The letter undermines persistent Vatican claims, particularly when seeking to defend itself in U.S. lawsuits, that the church in Rome never instructed local bishops to withhold evidence or suspicion of crimes from police. It instead emphasizes the church’s right to handle all child-abuse allegations, and determine punishments, in house rather than hand that power to civil authorities.

Pretty much shoots semi truck sized holes in Vatican claims that the church never instructed bishops to withhold evidence or suspicion of crimes from police doesn’t it? Hope all good Catholics are filling the collection plates big time on Sundays as I think the church is going to need every penny it can muster…

Vatican Rules That Women Priests As Bad As Pedophiles

A woman’s place in the Catholic Church has been re-enforced with the latest update of church rules by the Vatican which adds “attempted ordination of women” to the list of most serious crimes against church law. The rules update now makes attempting to ordain a woman a crime against Catholicism on par with a sexual offenses against a minor.

The Vatican is preparing to update the 2001 norms that deal with priestly sex abuse of minors, in effect codifying practices that have been in place for several years.

At the same time, it will include the “attempted ordination of women” among the list of most serious crimes against church law, or “delicta graviora,” sources said.

Sexual abuse of a minor by a priest was added to the classification of “delicta graviora” in 2001. At that time the Vatican established norms to govern the handling of such cases.

Provides an interesting perspective on the feelings towards women from the ultimate “boys club” also known as the Vatican doesn’t it?

A Step In The Right Direction?

At least he didn’t molest children right?

Kevin Gray, a priest at Sacred Heart Church in Waterbury, Connecticut, is expected to turn himself in after being charged with siphoning $1.3 million from church coffers to pay for his secret gay lifestyle. After a lengthy investigation, the authorities have charged Gray with first-degree larceny, which could carry a 20-year sentence if he’s eventually convicted.

Apparently for the past seven years Gray has been spending church money to fund trips to New York and pay for sessions with male escorts, and he also racked up $200,000 in restaurant bills including a large tab at Tavern on the Green.

The Stench From Child Abuse Scandal Coming Closer To The Pope

So if the Vatican’s chief exorcist blames the Catholic Priest child abuse scandal on the “devil being at work in the Vatican“, what does it mean if the Pope was quite possibly involved with covering it up?

A widening child sexual abuse inquiry in Europe has landed at the doorstep of Pope Benedict XVI, as a senior church official acknowledged Friday that a German archdiocese made “serious mistakes” in handling an abuse case while the pope served as its archbishop.

I am still amazed that after 70 plus years of atrocities (that we are aware of) and estimates as high as $2 billion in church funds spent hiding, fighting, and paying off victims, that Catholics haven’t said they’ve had enough. Catholics tread through child sex scandal after child sex scandal involving their leaders and seemingly don’t bat an eye while Lutheran’s go berserk to the point of leaving the church when their leaders vote to allow non-celibate gays to serve as pastors.

Quite an interesting look at religion and the various faiths if you think about it.

The Devil Made Them Do It

For all this time I stupidly thought that it was the Catholic Church’s outright disdain for homosexuals, their beliefs that Priests (or gays) should not be married, and their attempts to sweep under the rug known instances of Priest abuses against children that led to the ever increasing number of child abuse atrocities. The Vatican’s “chief exorcistsets me straight.

Sex abuse scandals in the Roman Catholic Church are proof that that “the Devil is at work inside the Vatican”, according to the Holy See’s chief exorcist.

Father Gabriele Amorth, 85, who has been the Vatican’s chief exorcist for 25 years and says he has dealt with 70,000 cases of demonic possession, said that the consequences of satanic infiltration included power struggles at the Vatican as well as “cardinals who do not believe in Jesus, and bishops who are linked to the Demon”.

The Vatican Top Ten

For some reason the official Vatican newspaper, L’ Osservatore Romano, decided to chime in on what they felt were the top ten albums of all time and considering what religious groups in the past felt about Rock music, the list might surprise you.

Amongst the papal state’s surprisingly secular picks? The Beatles’ Revolver (holding the no. 1 spot), Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of The Moon, Oasis’ (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, and Michael Jackson’s Thriller, whose “illuminating simplicity and musical thrust” they hail. Also: U2’s Achtung Baby, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, Donald Fagen of Steely Dan fame’s The Nightfly, Carlos Santana’s Supernatural, Paul Simon’s Graceland and David Crosby’s If I Could Only Remember My Name.

Not many there that would have made my list but the heavy Rock representation is unexpected to say the least. I’m also guessing that a few Catholic Priest/Michael Jackson jokes are being told in response to this story somewhere as well…

More Bad News For The Catholic Church

The hits just keep coming for the Catholic Church. The latest news coming out on the Catholic Church comes in the form of a 2600 page report documenting more priestly misdeeds at church run reform schools in Ireland.

After a nine-year investigation, a commission published a damning report Wednesday on decades of rapes, humiliation and beatings at Catholic Church-run reform schools for Ireland’s castaway children.

The 2,600-page report painted the most detailed and damning portrait yet of church-administered abuse in a country grown weary of revelations about child molestation by priests.

The investigation of the tax-supported schools uncovered previously secret Vatican records that demonstrated church knowledge of pedophiles in their ranks all the way back to the 1930s.

What was so telling in the article (besides the fact that some priests apparently still do not think that their vow of celibacy applies to little boys) was that even after all the abuses by priests that have been documented over the past decade or so, the church still resisted the investigation going so far as to issue religious orders to shield known pedophiles. Of course that was surprising until you read about another Catholic priest in the news this week as well.

In the early years of the sex abuse scandal in Milwaukee, retired Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland says in his soon-to-be released memoir, he did not comprehend the potential harm to victims or understand that what the priests had done constituted a crime.

“We all considered sexual abuse of minors as a moral evil, but had no understanding of its criminal nature,” Weakland says in the book, “A Pilgrim in a Pilgrim Church,” due out in June.

Weakland said he initially “accepted naively the common view that it was not necessary to worry about the effects on the youngsters: either they would not remember or they would ‘grow out of it.’?”

Does he really want us to believe that he didn’t know that abusing children would have a long term effect or that abusing children in his care even required thought over the consequences?

I guess it is safe to say that just about nothing the Catholic Church does these days should be a surprise anymore. The only thing that still makes me go hmm is how people can still support the church with their money considering how much of it used to payoff the deeds of pedophiles.

The Catholic Church Puts Their Homophobia To The Test

Not content to end a banner month as far a ridiculousness goes by condemning the use of condoms in Africa despite the rampant spread of AIDS and excommunicating the family of a 9 year old rape victim for allowing her to get an abortion, the Catholic Church is now taking steps to ensure that gays don’t slip past their gaydar and make it into the priesthood by testing them before allowing them to serve.

THE Melbourne Catholic Church has embraced a Vatican recommendation to test potential priests for sexual orientation.

Under the guidelines, potential priests who “appear” to be gay must be banned.

The head of the Vatican committee that made the recommendations has made it clear celibate gays should also be banned because homosexuality is ‘‘a type of deviation’’.

So I wonder what will be on that test? Score well on fashion and interior design questions and you get washed out of priest school? Is a pedophilia test going to be given to all potential priests as well?
