DCMA Follies

I am all for protecting copyrights and intellectual property but there are limits. The recent DCMA takedown notice that the AMC network filed with Twitter is one of those cases. Apparently their show Mad Men is quite popular and several Twitter users signed up using character names from the show, much to the chagrin of AMC.
Twitter has responded back to me on the issue. Apparently it wasn’t a spam issue, but rather a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown notice that Twitter’s support team responded to, co-founder Biz Stone tells me.I guess AMC didn’t like others playing the roll of its Mad Men characters besides the actors who play them on TV. Expect some backlash against the network.

So is where things have digressed? Folks can't even use character names on micro-blogging networks or forums? Look out South Park fans if Comedy Central decides to go this route.
